Top 3 Major Reasons Why NYSC Shouldn’t Be Scrapped

Why should anyone or a Nigerian youth corper even bring the idea that Nysc should be scrapped?

Don’t you know that the Nysc scheme has really helped most Nigerian university graduates to have become who they are; I just believe that the main reason for the implementation of the Nysc program is just to prepare the youths against what is ahead of them in the future, it’s like exposing them to what life is all about.

I was listening to the radio one afternoon in Delta State, (Hot Fm Asaba) and the title of the program was if Nysc should be scrapped on not, wow I was so happy so I became more serious, because really there was something to learn from that program.

The anchor of the program enlightened the audience on what the Nysc program is all about and also why everyone must serve their country.

After he finished enlightening the audience on the purpose of Nysc after graduating from the university, then he gave room for calls, that is for them to share their opinion on whether the Nysc program should be scrapped or not.

Yes I decided to come up with my opinion towards this topic, having seen and heard of the success of past Nysc corpers who really utilized their service year very well and are successful this today.

I don’t think scrapping of the Nysc scheme should take effect, because most corpers I have met are happy serving and they are really making good use of the opportunity given to them to make exploit while others are out there whiling away their time.

The truth about this topic is that Nysc program shouldn’t be scrapped for any reason.

The Nysc program has helped lots of Nigerians today in so many ways, people like Jide Ogunsanya, Linda Ikeji, and Liala Ikeji to have attained where they are today.

Without wasting much of your time I would be walking you down to the reasons why the Nysc program should not be scrapped.

  1. The Nysc Program Gives The Nigerian Corpers The Room To Acquire Any Skill Of Their Choice:

Like I usually say without the Nysc program coming to existence, Jide Ogunsanya and others wouldn’t have become who they are today; it was in the course of serving that they made up their mind to acquire a particular skill which they have acquired today.

The Nysc program enables the corper to be productive and self reliable, may be while they were in school (University or Campus) it was their parents that use to give them money for feeding and other kind of expenses.

Now you as a corper doing your service, you would begin to have this feeling, auction, or passion to be productive and then kind of being self reliable to take care of yourself and all that.

Come to think of it after graduating from the university with your certificates and you eventually don’t get a job who would you blame?

Nigeria is not a country whereby if you graduate you would be granted an automatic employment. Before the job come you must have spent about 2-4 years at home jobless.

It’s happening as of now; graduates are now going into one form of trade or the order just to survive and to fend for themselves.

So you’ve now understood that Nysc should not scrapped, the scheme is really helping most corpers today to even start their own skill, business and lots more, most especially the little finance given to them every month by the federal government.

  1. Nysc Program Helps Nigerian Corpers Prepare For The Future:

Many youth corpers today don’t know what kind of challenges they would meet in future may be after getting married and all that, some of them don’t know how to be dependent for themselves, rather they are going out there to while away their precious time.

This is the work of the Nysc as a scheme in Nigeria, because it will help them to prepare for all those challenges which I know must surely come in the life of a young person after getting married or before getting married.

The program will help the Nigerian youth corpers to overcome poverty whenever it comes on their way and lots of things the Nysc scheme will help you overcome.

  1. Nysc Scheme Make Corpers Exposed To Other People’s Cultures:

Most corpers would know what I am talking about, you can see an Igbo guy today who has always been in Imo State ever since he was born, that is to say he studied in Imo State, and he went to the university in Imo State, everything about him in Imo State.

Now how do you think that guy is going to be when he is been taking to another part of the country to start living.

Lol…

Of course he would be having problems with indigenes of that state because he doesn’t know how to relate with people, which eventually will be leading to one problem or the other.

Now you can see the importance of the Nysc scheme, if you are running your Nysc program definitely you must be posted to other states outside your catchment area. You know it really helps a lot so that can you can be able to know other peoples lifestyles and culture.

So that may whenever the opportunity of travelling to china or any other parts of the world, then you can be able to cope and relate with other people in different parts of the world.

Conclusion:

If you are among those who have been praying that the Nysc scheme should be cancelled then please you better have a change of mind as from now because Nysc is really helping you in one way or the order but you never know until you are done with service, you might take it as a program used for making people to suffer just like most Nigerian corpers where saying on the radio program.

I have talked a lot is now up to you to support the right motion,
